Lincoln Lawyer Mickey Haller must defend himself against murder charges in the heart-stopping new thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly
.

A CBS The Doctors Book Club Pick

People Book of the Week Selection

On the night he celebrates a big win, defense attorney Mickey Haller is pulled over by police, who find the body of a former client in the trunk of his Lincoln. Haller is immediately charged with murder but can’t post the exorbitant $5 million bail slapped on him by a vindictive judge.

Mickey elects to represent himself and is forced to mount his defense from his jail cell in the Twin Towers Correctional Center in downtown Los Angeles. All the while he needs to look over his shoulder—as an officer of the court he is an instant target, and he makes few friends when he reveals a corruption plot within the jail.

But the bigger plot is the one against him. Haller knows he’s been framed, whether by a new enemy or an old one. As his trusted team, including his half-brother, Harry Bosch, investigates, Haller must use all his skills in the courtroom to counter the damning evidence against him.

Even if he can obtain a not-guilty verdict, Mickey understands that it won’t be enough. In order to be truly exonerated, he must find out who really committed the murder and why. That is the law of innocence.

In his highest stakes case yet, the Lincoln Lawyer fights for his life and proves again why he is “a worthy colleague of Atticus Finch... in the front of the pack in the legal thriller game” (Los Angeles Times).

Not to worry he can run from Leavenworth and resume his unique style of governance from the big house not the white house in 2024.
  • Political views not needed

Liked the book, but a little thin on developing the defense case. Not one of his best. What was really irritating was the unnecessary insertion of the author’s political views. As a Trump supporter, I was insulted and I think I will not read Connelly again.

Like many recent Connelly books, this takes a while to get the plot going, but it builds nicely, and the last third hurtles along like a freight train. No one does courtroom material like Connelly. I was sorry when it was finished.
  • Love the story-didn’t appreciate the political comments

One of my favorite authors-but maybe no longer. His not-so-subtle progressive comments took away from what could have been a very enjoyable read. I’m saddened and disappointed.
  • Another one bites the dust

I hate that I wasted money on this book. Not only were the characters poorly developed and the plot not well done, the author chose to get political. If I wanted a political book, I would have bought one. I work in healthcare and have been battling the China virus since I left my home to go to NY. I’m tired of the fear mongering and read to get away from the political rhetoric and lies. I feel like I grew up with Harry Bosch & Mickey Haller. I’ll miss them, but I’ll never buy another Connelly book again. I’ll also be unsubscribing from his fan page. Shame on you.
  • Another excellent book in the series

The reviews are both interesting and telling. The description of the early days of the COVID crisis is factual. Reading a political message is the reader’s choice. The refusal to read an author who may or may not share your political views says more about you than the author. The belief that the majority of the author’s readers are conservatives is without foundation.

I’ve read all the books you’ve ever written but I will never buy or read another one. Your treatment of President Trump in your jury selection was all the way left. A leftist has no place in writing novels thank you for the past.

I love his characters and I’m sadly not going to buy this book because of the reviews I have read! One of the ways I vote is with my pocketbook - keep your opinions of “ us Trump supporters” to yourself Mr. Connelly!

Connelly has lost it. Loved the previous Mickey Haller books but this one was boring and tedious .
